Trusting God, Letting Go, and Letting Life Flow
There comes a time in life when we stand at the edge of our own understanding, where our own strength is not enough, and where the weight of our circumstances feels unbearable. In that moment, we have a choice—to fight against life, to resist what is happening, or to surrender and trust that something greater than ourselves is guiding the way. This page is about that trust. Not just believing in God, Source, Life, or whatever name resonates with you, but truly trusting that everything is happening for you, not to you.
How I Came to Trust God
My journey to trust wasn’t gradual; it was forged in the fire of devastation. My wife and the mother of my three young daughters, Tammy, passed away unexpectedly from an epileptic seizure while home alone. Seeing her lifeless body was overwhelming, a shock that shattered every sense of normalcy in my life. Friends took me and my daughters to a hotel that night, and as I lay in bed unable to sleep, I felt like my existence had come to an end.
I started talking to God, not with prayers of faith, but with raw, unfiltered honesty. I told Him I was done. I didn’t want to be here anymore. If there was ever a moment where I needed proof that God existed, it was then. I had no strength left. But then, a single thought broke through the despair—my daughters. I loved them more than myself, and they needed me.
I told God that I was worthless to them in my current state and that if He was real, He had to take over. I told Him, “You are going to raise these girls because I can’t. And if you do it well, I will give you all the credit.” I also made a silent promise to say ‘yes’ to anything that felt like a Godsend. I surrendered in a way I never had before.
And then something shifted.
I let go.
For the first time since the tragedy, I fell asleep.
The next morning, I woke up fully present, completely in the moment. I got my daughters dressed, took them to breakfast, and noticed that my mind wasn’t lost in grief—it was here, now. I couldn’t think about the past, and I wasn’t worried about the future. It was as if God had taken the burden off my shoulders.
From that day forward, life began to unfold in miraculous ways. People showed up to help in ways I could never have orchestrated. Doors opened. Unbelievable coincidences—what I now recognize as synchronicities—became my daily experience. And now, all these years later, my daughters have grown into extraordinary women, surpassing every expectation I could have ever had for them. Every time someone compliments them, I give the credit to God.
What Trusting God Means
Trusting God doesn’t mean you sit back and do nothing. It means you stop resisting life. It means you say “yes” when help arrives, even when you don’t understand it. It means you surrender the need to control every detail and recognize that there is a divine intelligence at work, weaving everything together in ways you can’t yet see.
To trust God is to believe, without seeing, that life is happening for you, not against you. It is to recognize that God is within you, always guiding you, always present.
How to Build Trust in God
If trusting in God feels foreign to you, start with these simple practices:
Surrender What You Can’t Control
Let go of trying to force outcomes. When you feel overwhelmed, pause and say, “I release this. I trust that all is unfolding perfectly.”
Live in the Present Moment
Fear lives in the past and the future. But God is only ever found in the present. When you stay here, in this moment, you will feel peace.
Say 'Yes' to What Feels Like a Godsend
Life will present you with opportunities, people, and signs. Instead of doubting them, trust that they are placed in your path for a reason.
Look for the Synchronicities
When you start trusting, you will notice that things fall into place effortlessly. Take note of the signs, the ‘coincidences,’ and the moments that seem divinely orchestrated.
Give Gratitude for Everything
The more you acknowledge God’s presence, the more you will see it. Thank God for everything—the small wins, the unexpected help, the moments of peace.
Remember That God is Within You
You are not separate from God. You are an extension of Source, an expression of the divine. The more you align with this truth, the more peace you will feel.
A Life Transformed by Trust
Trusting God doesn’t mean life will be without challenges. It means that when challenges come, you won’t be alone. It means that instead of fear, you will experience an unshakable knowing that all is unfolding for your highest good.
My prayer for you is that you experience this trust without having to go through what I went through to find it. That you allow yourself to let go, to say ‘yes,’ and to walk forward with faith.
Because when you truly trust God, life happens differently. Everything flows. Peace replaces fear. And miracles become the norm.
